JEWFISH KEY
Egmont Key is definitely one of our guest favorites. This secluded island is only accessible by boat and is filled with rich American history dating back to the 1800's.
Egmont Key became a state park in the 1970's but long before it served as a strategic military base protecting Tampa Bay from incoming ships during the Spanish-American War. We love exploring the old ruins on the island including Fort Dade, The old jail cells, lighthouse, and even a cemetery.
Egmont Key is primarily a wildlife refuge and can only accessible by boat. Its a great spot for swimming on its pristine beaches, explore the ruins, check out the local wildlife and go shelling on its secluded beaches,
Although this park is primarily a wildlife refuge, it can be a personal refuge - a place to relax and collect shells along secluded, pristine beaches.
